About Us

What unites us is our belief in Seven Principles:

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person

  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations

  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations

  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning

  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large

  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all

  • Respect for the independent web of all existence of which we are a part

Unitarians and Universalists were originally two separate religious groups which had their roots in England and Europe.  Members of these groups emigrated to America to escape religious persecution, and in 1961 the American Unitarian Association and the Universalist Church of America consolidated and organized as the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Our Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Firelands—previously known as the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Erie County—was founded in Sandusky, Ohio, in 1963.
