Join UUs Sunday for an Ohio Environmental Update

This Sunday at 10:30, Lauren Berlekamp, Director of City Fresh Erie County and Honeybomb Frequency Radio Host will be giving an Environmental Advocacy Update to discuss the Forward on Climate Rally in Washington DC that took place Mid February and the Ohio is Not for Shale Legislative Action & Rally taking place Thursday, March 7. For those who aren’t attending, we are encouraging folks to participate in the Contact Blitz. See below for details:

ImageWhile Ohio residents visit legislators offices, rally on the statehouse steps and deliver petitions to Governor Kasich……you can help from wherever you are by making a simple call or sending an e-mail! We are holding a contact blitz on two individuals:

Governor John Kasich, who can enact an executive order to stop Ohio from having toxic fracking waste injected into our land and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director James Zehringer, who should have taken action against polluter Ben Lupo years ago due to prior violations and prevented the illegal dumping of toxic waste into public waterways recently in Youngstown, Ohio.

Please call, write, fax or e-mail as is convenient for you. Use the sample template and quotes or let loose with your own personal concerns. Your help is greatly appreciated and needed. We are all connected by our air, water and soil, it’s a global cause.

Dear __________________________,
I am contacting you regarding my concerns over hydraulic fracturing in the state of Ohio.

“We the people of Ohio demand the Ohio Legislature immediately grant local governments the authority to approve or deny industrial oil and gas operations via zoning as they do any other businesses.”

“Our Governor, Senators, and Representatives have passed Fracking, Injection Well, and Water Withdrawal laws that deny the People of Ohio, our political and human rights. The Gas and Oil Industry now holds legal precedence over our land, our water, our air, our homes, our health, our children’s health, our ecosystem, and our freedom for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

“Ohio is not a dumping ground for the oil and gas industry’s waste. That should be clear… but right now, waste from fracking is being injected deep underground at sites across our state. Tell Governor Kasich to stop the disposal of fracking waste in Ohio! The dumping of fracking waste can even cause earthquakes. Youngstown, OH has experienced earthquakes that geologists confirmed were caused by a nearby injection well used for fracking waste. The best way to prevent more earthquakes is to not inject millions of gallons of chemical-laden waste below the surface!”
